Luxury Leamington hotel Mallory Court is hosting a sizzling charity ‘firewalk’ event run by Pentlands Business and Tax Advisors.
The event, which is raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support, Myton Hospice and The Philippine Community Fund, is taking place in the hotel’s grounds and will be entered by Pentland’s staff and clients plus Mallory staff and representatives from all three charities.
Fire walking, organised by expert activity organisers ‘Survivorbility’, is one of the more unusual activities undertaken for charity, and a pass time that Tara Robinson, Sales and Marketing Manager at the luxury hotel, was rather nervous of partaking in.
She said: “I felt pretty anxious but I was reassured it’s 100% safe and it is raising money for such fantastic causes that I couldn’t possibly say no. I’m very proud that I’ve collected over £200 and it was such an incredibly motivational experience that I’d do it again!”
The firewalk consists of participants walking bare foot across red hot wood embers measuring 600 – 800 degrees Celsius – not a feat for the faint hearted. The practise has a history stretching back over 4,000 years and is undertaken to empower the individual by facing a primal fear of fire.
Tara added: “I made sure that I hadn’t been covering my feet with lotions and potions for the past few weeks as it was against the rules so they are looking forward to lots of TLC now it is all over”.
Macmillan Cancer Support Fundraising Manager Karen Shortt, who works with the hotel on a frequent basis, commented: “I am incredibly grateful to Pentlands for deciding to put on this exciting event and of course to Mallory Court Hotel for agreeing to host it on their beautiful grounds! I would especially like to thank all those who will be joining me on this exciting challenge, for their fantastic fundraising efforts that will help us provide practical, medical, emotional and financial support for people living with cancer.’
