Mallory goes beyond call of duty to take care of employees
Mallory Court Hotel in Leamington Spa has teamed up with the Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service in a pilot scheme encouraging local businesses to extend the duty of care from the workplace to the home.
Mallory Court is the first local business in Warwickshire to get on board with the ‘business partnership’ scheme, inviting fire fighters to the hotel to meet with employees to talk about fire safety both at work and in the home.
The new initiative is being headed up by David Finnerty, Community Fire and Safety Manager for the Warwick Area Risk Team, who hopes it will be rolled out across Warwickshire and beyond, commenting that it is ‘extremely important that local businesses take their responsibilities to fire safety and their employees seriously’.
In a workshop run at the luxury hotel, employees met with fire fighters to receive advice and guidance, helping them to make an assessment of fire safety in their homes and organising follow up home fire safety checks where necessary to fit free smoke alarms.
The Eden Hotel Collection, to which Mallory Court belongs, is now working with both the Devon and Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Services to make sure employees at their sister hotels have the same opportunity to participate.

Mr Chambers added that he had ‘learnt some very useful tips today, one of which is making sure you close internal doors before going to bed as this will prevent fire and smoke spreading throughout the house’.
