Coventry is the UK’s designated City of Culture next year, a title that is only awarded every four years.

With an eclectic variety of museums, theatres and art galleries plus an independent creative quarter, it’s easy to see why the city was chosen. We’ve taken a look at just a few of our favourite cultural hotspots in Coventry you could explore during your stay at Mallory Court…

Inspiring theatres

Did you know Coventry is home to several independent theatres? Each offers a fascinating history and a varied mix of performances, take a trip to either the Albany Theatre, the Belgrade Theatre in the town centre or the Criterion Theatre.

An artistically repurposed industrial space near the city centre, FarGo is Coventry’s creative quarter designed exclusively for creative, independent businesses.

Built in 2014 visitors can enjoy over 15 unique shops, plus a variety of delicious eateries, escape rooms and working brewery the ‘Twisted Barrel’. FarGo also regularly runs events throughout the year making it an ideal place to visit on a trip to Coventry.

Amusing museums

From Coventry’s leading Transport Museum to the quirky Watch Museum Project and Emporium & Phil Silvers Archival Museum, there’s plenty to learn and explore on a trip to the city. With Coventry’s rich history in the two-tone music movement, including being home to bands The Specials and The Selecter, the Music Museum is also definitely worth a trip for ska fans.

Historic Cathedral

After the original cathedral was bombed on 14th November 1940, the ‘new’ Coventry Cathedral opened in 1962 and is a sight to behold. Containing some of the finest examples of 1950’s and 60’s art and architecture in England, a trip to the Cathedral is a cultural must when visiting and is free to enter.
